A U.S. business lobbying group wants more incentives for multinational corporations from the South Korean government. The American Chamber of Commerce said South Korea needs to lower taxes, reduce foreign exchange controls and make it easier to fire workers if it wants to host regional headquarters of multinational corporations. The chamber's president, Jeffrey Jones, said South Korea's geographical location and skilled work force makes the country attractive, but it needs to make itself more friendly toward foreign investors. Jones said several multinational companies may eye Shanghai and Seoul as they consider leaving Hong Kong and Singapore because of high operating costs and the shift of market toward North Asia.
