Military: NK May Test Short-range Missiles

The military is keeping close tabs on North Korea’s military activities as concerns grow it may test-fire short-range missiles off the eastern coast.

Recent foreign media reports said Pyongyang banned ships from sailing in the waters off Wonsan, Gangwon Province from June 9th to 29th.

A military official in Seoul said the North may fire short-range missiles in the northeast direction from Wonsan, citing the Japan Coast Guard's report that a ban was placed on waters stretching 263 kilometers-long and 100 kilometers-wide in the east coast.

The military said Pyongyang is likely to test the KN-01 anti-ship missile with a 160-kilometer range. The missile is an improved version of the 90-kilometer range Silkworm.

The North fired six short-range missiles from the coastal bases in Musudan-ri and Wonsan from May 26th to 29th, following its second nuclear test on May 25th.
