New Lava Cave Found at Jeju Heritage Site

A new lava cave has been found at the UNESCO-designated Geomun Oreum Lava Cave System on Jeju Island.

The Jeju headquarters overseeing UNESCO natural heritage sites has confirmed the find of a new lava cave some 40 meters from an existing cave in Gujwa township.

The Woljeong Namjimi cave is about 100 meters long, five meters wide and one-point-eight meters high. It is similar to a nearby cave in that it was created by lava but has, over the years, become a massive limestone deposit.
