Gaeseong Companies Request Emergency Aid

Representatives from South Korean firms operating at the Gaeseong Industrial Complex are requesting emergency funds and other aid from the government.

During a meeting with the Grand National Party's leadership on Thursday, they asked for some 30 billion won in compensation for accumulated deficits and 31 billion won in future operating funds.

The group also asked the ruling party to expand the insurance guarantee limit to cover the losses incurred due to the North's unilateral requests and tensions in inter-Korean ties.

The group said the government should be aware that the complex has the potential to hire 500-thousand North Korean workers and house two million residents.
