Koreas Resume Gaeseong Talks

The Unification Ministry says the two Koreas resumed working-level talks on the Gaeseong Industrial Complex at 3:15 p.m. on Friday after a brief intermission.

A Seoul Unification Ministry official said the two sides held a meeting at ten a.m. that lasted about two hours in the North's border city of Gaeseong.

The official said that in the morning session, South Korean officials pressed for the release of a detained South Korean worker and conveyed Seoul's basic position on other issues relating to the inter-Korean industrial park. North Korean officials also conveyed their stances on the issues.

Although no further details of the meeting have been disclosed, Seoul is believed to have expressed to the North that it will not accept Pyongyang’s demands for a wage increase for North Korean workers or an increase in land-use fees.

The first round of Gaeseong talks between the two Koreas came in April.
