Written: 2002-03-20 00:00:00Updated: 0000-00-00 00:00:00

Officials said Wednesday South Korea and Japan, co-hosts of the 2002 FIFA World Cup finals, have recently agreed to grant temporary visa exemptions between the two countries from May 15th through June 30th. The agreement was a follow up to last year's decision by the two countries to grant visa exemptions to South Koreans who will visit Japan during the World Cup finals. Currently, Japanese citizens are allowed by the Seoul government to stay in South Korea for up to 30 days without a visa. Officials said the two countries also decided to allow tourists from both countries to engage in screening procedures at their point of departure as part of efforts to ensure smooth travel between the two countries.
