Venezuelan Film Festival Opens in Daegu

A Venezuelan film festival and a retrospective on French comedic filmmaker Jacques Tati will be held this week at the Dongseong Art Hall in Daegu.

The Daegu Cinematheque says six films reflecting Venezuela’s mix of diverse people, language and religion will be shown through Tuesday.

Screenings include "The Smoking Fish" and "Crab Ⅱ," directed by Venezuela's Román Chalbaud, as well as Solveig Hoogesteijn’s "Macu, the Policeman's Woman," which sat atop Venezuela’s box office for weeks.

The Jacques Tati retrospective, running from June 24th to the 28th, will feature nine of the French comic icon’s films.

Three of Tati’s short films and six feature length films, including “Festival Day,” “Parade,” “My Uncle” and “Play Time,” will be screened.
