2011 College Admission Plan Announced

The Korean Council for University Education has announced its admission plan for 2011.

The council on Thursday said that the "three-no's" education policy restricting universities' autonomy in recruiting new students will be maintained.

The policy refers to decades-old government measures banning universities from administering their own admission exams, accepting donations for student admissions, and ranking high schools based on their performances.

The council added that it decided to maintain the rules because sudden abolishment of the rules could cause confusion among students and parents.

However, the council decided to seek a comprehensive and advanced admission system which evaluates students' creativity and potential as well as their academic scores.

It will also have universities announce in advance the procedures and standards for selecting admissions officers in order to secure fairness and objectivity in the new "admissions officer system."
