The Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries said Saturday....a delegation from the Bureau of International Expositions (BIE) will arrive in Korea Sunday for an on-site survey of the 2010 Expo candidate city, Yeosu. During the six-day stay in Seoul, Eugene Maegle, the BIE's regulation commission director and leader of the seven-member delegation, will meet with President Kim Dae-jung, political leaders, high-ranking government officials and business leaders, including Hyundai Motor Chairman Chung Mong-ku to gauge their commitment to the south coast port city's Expo bid. The delegation's visit to Yeosu in South Jeolla Province will also include nearby Jeju Island, which hopes to host some of the exposition sites. The delegates will report their findings to a meeting of the BIE's executive commission in May and its general assembly meeting in July. Ministry officials said that with the delegation's arrival, the ministry is preparing a variety of campaigns to reveal the country's determination to secure the Expo, such as collecting one million signatures from nationals and 2,010 organizations. Yeosu and cities in five countries China, Russia, Mexico, Argentina and Poland are competing to host Expo 2010. The 88 BIE member countries will select the host city by secret ballot at their general assembly meeting in Paris in December.
