Koreas to Hold 3rd Gaeseong Working Level Talks

The two Koreas started their third round of working level talks on the operations of the Gaeseong Industrial Complex this morning.

The South’s delegation is placing top priority on the release of a detained South Korean worker at the talks, which are being conducted at the industrial park located in Gaeseong, North Korea.

The delegation will discuss various issues concerning the Gaeseong park based on three basic principles for the stable development of the business complex. The three standards are establishing a norm of compliance for inter-Korean agreements and contracts, seeking economic principles and addressing future-oriented developments.

The South is reportedly willing to negotiate with the North on building nurseries and dormitories as well as discuss issues regarding passage, communication and customs at the complex.

However, South Korean officials also plan to reiterate Seoul’s position that it will not accept the North’s demands for an increase in land use fees. The North is expected to repeat this demand by stressing the political value of the Gaeseong park.

North Korean officials are also expected to unveil details on measures they will take regarding entry and exit to the complex and restrictions on South Koreans staying inside the park.
