"Seoul Park" opened in western Paris Monday in a show of growing friendship between the two capitals. Seoul Mayor Goh Kun and his Paris counterpart Bertrand Delanoe attended the opening ceremony, along with some 300 Korean residents of the French capital. Goh said in a speech..."Seoul Park is a project aimed at further promoting friendship between the two cities based on a bilateral friendship agreement signed in November 1991. He said...the park will provide Parisians with a Korean atmosphere while Koreans in Paris can get a sense of their homeland at this park. Paris Mayor Delanoe said the newly opened park is an excellent symbol linking Paris and Seoul. The park emerged from a 1999 agreement reached between Goh and then-Paris Mayor Jean Tiberi to mark the 10th anniversary of Paris-Seoul sisterhood ties. It was completed after 15 months of construction. Occupying an area of 4,620 square meters, Seoul Park is surrounded with an adobe wall and features a bamboo forest, a traditional Korean bridge and a platform for enjoying views of the moon. Seoul provided the cost of construction for the park while Paris offered the site free of charge.
