Gov't Selects 457 Schools for No Private Ed. Program

The government has selected four-hundred-57 schools nationwide to receive financial support for after-school programs.

The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology said Tuesday that it has selected one-hundred-60 elementary schools, one-hundred-42 middle schools and one-hundred-55 high schools for its program, dubbed “schools free of private education.”

The ministry said it selected schools that had effective public education and after-school programs and schools whose principals were determined to cut private education costs.

The ministry plans to provide some one-hundred-30 million won, or around 102-thousand U.S. dollars, to each school every year for the next three years. Such funds will be used to operate after-school programs and to provide incentive for staff that will take part in such programs.
