Hyundai Asan Chief Wants Geumgang Tours Resumed

Hyundai Asan President Cho Gun-shik says he is determined to resume his company’s tours to North Korea's Mount Geumgang resort.

The remark came during his company's monthly meeting Tuesday ahead of the first anniversary of the suspension of Geumgang tours. The tours were halted last summer following the killing of a South Korean tourist by North Korean soldiers at Geumgang.

Cho said tour programs to North Korea were first launched by late Hyundai Group founder Chung Ju Yung in 1989 and have since continued for 20 years. He said that despite the current disruptions, the opportunity to resume the tours will present itself.

Regarding the Hyundai worker detained by the North for over 100 days, Cho said he hopes Pyongyang will convey its stance this month about whether or not to grant the worker access to foreign interviews.
