Media Workers to Launch General Strike

The National Union of Media Workers says it will launch a general strike starting at six a.m. Tuesday, in protest of the ruling Grand National Party's move to put a controversial media reform bill to a vote at the National Assembly.

In a news conference held in front of the GNP headquarters Monday, the union announced it will fight for the denunciation of the bill starting Tuesday, adding that the party and the governemnt will face stern judgement by the people if the party pushes for the bill which 80 percent of the people is opposed to.

Accordingly, unionized workers of broadcasters MBC and SBS will launch the general strike Tuesday morning, while those of KBS, who are not part of the National Union of Media Workers, will join the strike from Wednesday.
