The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (MOMAF) announced Saturday its launch of surveys on coastal areas nationwide over the next two years, beginning next month. MOMAF will invest 700 million won in the project. The first phase of the inspection will include researching ecosystems of coastal areas, the use of marine resources, the degree of sea pollution, and facility disaster preparedness, in 30 regions on the western coast for a year. The intention of the ministry is to improve present coastal management systems and it plans to carry out such surveys every five years.
