Sources said Monday that a concert featuring 202 Korean and Japanese cellists will be held in Seoul to celebrate the 2002 FIFA World Cup finals. The concert, scheduled for 5 p.m. April 14 at the Grand Hall of the Sejong Cultural Center in central Seoul, is being organized by members of the Korean Cello Society and and the Japan NPO International Cello Ensemble Society. The event will feature transcriptions of popular pieces including "An der schoenen, blauen Donau" and "Pizzicato Polka" by Johann Strauss Jr., tangos by Astor Piazzola, and Korean lyric songs like "Barley Field," and "Mt. Kumgang." The two organizations held a similar joint concert entitled the "Korea-Japan Friendship Cello Concert" in Yokohama, Japan on March 10.
