The Korea National Tourism Organization said Wednesday South Korea reported a tourism deficit of $312.4 million dollars for the first two months of the year, posting $809 million dollars in revenue and $1.12 billion dollars in expenditures. During the reported period, tourism-generated income fell 19.8 percent year-on-year while spending rose 22.8 percent. KNTO attributed the fall in the revenue to a rise in the number of Koreans traveling abroad. In February, 1.14 million Koreans traveled abroad, up 20.7 percent year-on-year, while the number of inbound visitors fell 4.2 percent from a year earlier to 757,561.
