The government announced Thursday that it is to develop Dorasan Station as security tourism site before the World Cup finals this summer. According to the Ministry of National Defense (MND), the National Security Council recently decided to include the nation's northernmost station, a North Korean infiltration tunnel and the Dora observation tower as part of a sightseeing route. Tourist facilities will also be installed in the truce village of Panmunjom. Escalators in the tunnel and periscopes in the observation tower will be installed by May 1st at a cost of $4 million dollars. $2.2 million dollars will be poured into establishing an exit and entry control office in preparation for the transportation of people and resources. Dorasan station sits on the cross-border Seoul-Sinuiju (Kyongui) Line severed during the 1950-53 Korean War. President Kim Dae-jung and U.S. President George W. Bush visited the station March 20th to call on the North to return to the negotiating table.
