Hyundai Chairwoman to Return from NK Thursday

Hyundai Group Chairwoman Hyun Jeong-eun will return home on Thursday after wrapping up a four-day trip to North Korea.

Hyun extended her stay in the communist state for one day to seek a meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong-il. However, there has been no word yet of such a meeting having taken place.

North Korean media said Wednesday that Kim toured around a naval college in North Hamgyeong Province and attended a theatrical performance, suggesting that his schedule may have kept him from meeting with Hyun.

Sources familiar with North Korea affairs said Hyun’s attempt to meet with Kim might have failed due to her rejection of a proposal by the North regarding the release of a detained South Korean worker at Gaeseong in the North.
