The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries announced Saturday that they will launch a project to monitor waste in the country's coastal areas for this year starting Monday. The project, launched three years ago together with 23 environmental organizations, is designed to gather raw data that will identify different types of waste, the times at which they are dumped, and their origin. The monitoring will be done once a month at 20 coastal sites around the country and, for the first time, will cover waste dumped out at sea. About 600 people, mostly members of regional environmental organizations and students, will collect the data.
