NK to Send Delegation to Ex-Pres. Kim's Funeral

North Korea will send a delegation to Seoul to pay respects to former President Kim Dae-Jung.

The North’s Asia-Pacific Peace Committee, which oversees Pyongyang relations with South Korea, said Wednesday that it will send a high-level delegation to the funeral.

Democratic Party Lawmaker Park Ji-won told a briefing at Yonsei Severance Hospital that the North’s committee conveyed the plan to former Unification Minister and board member of the Kim Dae-jung Peace Center, Im Dong-won.

The five-member delegation will deliver a floral wreath on behalf of North Korean leader Kim Jong-il. The delegation will be composed of senior officials of the North’s ruling Workers’ Party.

In a letter sent to the Kim Dae Jung Peace Center, the North Korean committee said Kim Jong-il expressed his condolences as soon as he heard news of the president’s death and ordered the dispatch of the delegation.
