A North Korean delegation will visit Seoul on Friday to pay respects to late former President Kim Dae-jung.
The delegation is reportedly scheduled to depart from Pyongyang on a Koryo Air flight at around 2 p.m. and arrive at Seoul's Gimpo Airport at around 3:10 p.m.
Kim’s aide, Choi Kyung-hwan, said Friday that the delegation is expected to bring a floral wreath from North Korean leader Kim Jong-il and offer it at the memorial altar at the National Assembly.
Choi added that the delegation, led by Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea Kim Ki-nam, is set to meet with former First Lady Lee Hee-ho in a separate meeting to convey the reclusive leader’s condolences.
Kim Ki-nam, who is reportedly one of Kim Jong-il’s closest aides, visited Seoul National Cemetery when he traveled to South Korea to attend an event celebrating Independence Day in August 2005. During the trip, Kim also visited former President Kim Dae-jung, who was hospitalized for pneumonia at the time.
The North’s six-member delegation also includes Kim Yang-gon, head of the United Front Department of the North's ruling Workers' Party, and Won Dong-hyun, a senior official at the North’s Asia-Pacific Peace Committee.
Attention is being drawn to whether the North’s delegation will seek a meeting with South Korean officials during their two-day stay.
