The Red Cross societies of the two Koreas will hold a meeting at North Korea’s Mount Geumgang on Wednesday to discuss preparations for inter-Korean family reunions.
South Korea’s Red Cross delegation left Seoul around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday and is scheduled to cross the border into the North via an overland route around 3:30 p.m.
On Wednesday, officials of the two Koreas will hold a full session, deliver keynote speeches and attend a dinner organized by the North.
Each side will be represented by three officials over the course of the next three days.
The inter-Korean Red Cross meeting --- the first to be held in two years --- will focus on fine-tuning details on inter-Korean family reunions that are set to take place around the Chuseok holidays in early October.
In particular, Seoul said it will seek to discuss with Pyongyang ways to utilize a family reunion center at the mountain resort that has been left vacant since its construction was completed in July of last year.
