Inter-Korean Red Cross Talks Begin at Mt. Geumgang

The South and North Korean Red Cross organizations have begun a meeting at the North’s Mount Geumgang resort to arrange reunions of families separated in the war.

The Unification Ministry said the South Korean delegation arrived at the talks’ venue on Wednesday at 3:20 p.m.

The ministry said the general meeting was scheduled for 5 p.m. but was delayed by 40 minutes due to glitches in communication connections with Seoul’s headquarters.

This is the first time reunion talks have been held in two years.

The two sides will discuss the details of a new round of reunions in late September.

If the ongoing talks go smoothly, a second general meeting may be held and the two countries may issue a joint statement. The South Korean delegation is expected to return on Friday.
