The parliamentary committee on foreign affairs is seeking to have the two Koreas cheer together at the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.
A delegation of the National Assembly Committee on Foreign Affairs, Trade and Unification that is visiting South Africa said Friday that the soccer event can be used as an opportunity to promote inter-Korean reconciliation and cooperation, as both Koreas will be taking part in the tournament.
The delegation said it plans to draw up a resolution forming a joint cheering squad with the North for submission to next month’s regular session of the Assembly.
Grand National Party legislator Kim Choong-hwan, who is a member of the committee, said enough inter-Korean cooperation funds should be used to help the North bring some 300 people to South Africa to attend the games.
Currently, there are some four-thousand South Koreans residing in South Africa, while there are only around 20 North Koreans, including embassy officials and students.
