3 of 6 Missing from Imjin River Flood Found Dead

Three out of six people who went missing during the Sunday flood of the Imjin River have been found dead.

Authorities said Monday that one of the six missing people, 40-year-old Suh Gang-il, was found dead at around 10:20 a.m. some nine kilometers from Imjin Bridge.

Around 10:40 a.m., search and rescue workers found the body of 41-year-old Kim Dae-geun, who went missing while fishing under the Biryong Bridge. The body of 38-year-old Lee Kyung-joo was found near the Jangnam Bridge some 20 kilometers from the Imjin Bridge around noon.

Authorities said the three bodies have been transported to a hospital in Yeoncheon County, adding that search and rescue efforts for the remaining three people are actively under way.

The flood was reportedly caused by the North's apparent discharge of an estimated 40 million tons of water from its Hwanggang Dam near the inter-Korean border without prior notification.
