Nation's Biggest Fossilized Pterosaur Footprint Found in Gunwi

A fossilized footprint of a pterosaur has been found in Gunwi, North Gyeongsang Province.

The Natural Heritage Center under the National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage said Monday that the fossilized footprint measuring some 35 centimeters in length and 17 centimeters in width is estimated to be between 90 million and 100 million years old.

The heritage center said it believes the recently discovered fossil could be the biggest fossilized footprint of a pterosaur ever found. The center plans to win such recognition during the 69th Annual Meeting of the Society of Vertebrate Paleontology in Bristol, Britain, at the end of this month.
