KCC to Announce Plans for Lower Mobile Phone Fees

The head of Korea Communications Commission says it will announce before the Chuseok holidays plans to lower mobile communication fees by ten percent.

At a parliamentary committee meeting on culture and broadcasting, KCC Chairman Choi Si-jung noted that working-level officials from the government and service providers have been negotiating lowering monthly service fees and one-time activation fees for mobile phones.

He added that even if the fee-lowering plan is selected, it will take some time for implementation.

Some lawmakers criticized that most mobile phone subscribers will not be able to benefit from the plan and that it will violate market principles.
