FIFA praises World Cup security preparedness

FIFA, the soccer's world governing body, has praised South Korea's preparation and security readiness for the upcoming World Cup. After touring stadiums and host cities, FIFA coordinator Peter Velappan said the South Korean Organizing Committee's preparations are "excellent." Walter Gagg, a FIFA director who focused on inspecting stadium security, said there will be no hooligans and no terrorists, and Korea and Japan will be a safe place to watch soccer. The two FIFA inspectors arrived in South Korea Monday and toured stadiums in Seoul, Gwangju, Incheon, Ulsan and Suwon. Other FIFA officials inspected five other venues ... Busan, Daejeon, Daegu, Jeonju and Seogwipo last week. South Korea and Japan will co-host the World Cup from May 31st through June 30th ... the first to be staged in Asia. South Korea and Japan will each stage 32 matches ... with the opener in Seoul and the championship match at Yokohama, Japan.
