CHA to Restore Joseon Royal Tombs

The government will restore the Joseon dynasty royal tombs recently included on the UNESCO list of world cultural heritage sites.

The Cultural Heritage Administration announced Wednesday a basic plan on the preservation and management of Joseon-era royal tombs. It says the project to restore damaged tombs and to preserve existing ones will begin next year.

About 490 million won, or 415-thousand U.S. dollars, will be invested in the project through 2025 to restore tomb facilities and to build disaster prevention infrastructure, including closed-circuit televisions to protect against fire outbreaks and theft.

It will also develop tour paths linking royal palaces, tombs and nearby tourist spots and will open a Joseon royal tomb exhibition hall in Seoul’s Nowon district before December.
