The 46th Suwon Hwaseong Cultural Festival has opened in Suwon, Gyeonggi Province.

Against the backdrop of Hwaseong Fortress --- a UNESCO world heritage site --- the festival will feature various programs to display culture and life during the Joseon Dynasty period, especially during the reign of King Jeongjo in the late 18th century.

The festival began at 11 a.m. Wednesday with a martial arts performance in front of the fortress.

The five-day event will include a traditional musical performance, a jazz festival and a fashion show of Joseon royal court attire.
