Decoding of the flight data recorder (FDR) of the Air China jet that crashed near Busan last Monday will likely begin here over the weekend as the black box sent to the U.S. manufacturer for dismantling was not as damaged as earlier thought. Aviation Bureau Chief Ham Dae-young of the ministry said the FDR will be returned to Korea in two or three days and moved to the black box decoding room at Gimpo Airport for full-scale analysis this weekend. The FDR consists of 120 different parameters, so the decoding will take at least four months, the bureau chief added. As for the cockpit voice recorder (CVR), the pilot's voice was clearly audible and will be interpreted by the weekend, he foresaw.
