S.Korea to Restore Murals in NW China Caves

South Korea has begun its project to restore Buddhist murals in caves in China’s Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region.

A team from the National Museum of Korea, which signed an agreement on restoration with the local government of Xinjiang Uighur in February, is currently doing its first on-site inspections of the Bezeklik Thousand Buddha Caves.

The caves, along with the Mogao Grottoes, are a representative cultural asset on the Silk Road.

The project consists of preservation work on ten caves over the next five years and is the first project of its kind in the area.
