The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology will set up special task force to bridge an educational gap amongst high schools and come up with measures by year’s end.
A ministry official said prompt actions were necessary as the results of the national scholastic aptitude tests from different schools were disclosed to the media.
The official went on to say that the government will mull support measures for high schools with low test grades in cities and provinces where high school students are selected based on grades.
Also, since students in Seoul will be allowed to choose their high schools under the High School Choice Program as of next year, the government will focus its support toward the less popular high schools.
The new program will give students and parents a choice, albeit limited, as to which schools they prefer. Currently, Seoul students are randomly assigned to a high school in their local area.
