The two Koreas failed to produce a concrete agreement in a Red Cross society meeting on Friday, held in the North Korean border city of Gaeseong.
South Korea proposed that more reunions for separated families be held next month and around the Lunar New Year holiday next year.
The South also asked the North to hold regular reunions at the permanent reunion center located in North Korea’s Mount Geumgang resort.
Seoul also demanded a resolution to the issue of South Korean prisoners of war and those abducted by the North.
North Korea did not accept South Korea’s proposal, although it admitted that reunions of separated families are necessary.
Instead, the North asked for the provision of humanitarian aid, but did not reveal what or how much it wants in detail.
The South Korean delegation responded that it will review the North Korean request after returning to Seoul.
The Unification Ministry in Seoul said that the two Koreas will schedule the next meeting through liaison officers at the truce village of Panmunjeom.
