Science and Technology Minister Chae Yung-bok, who is on an official visit to the United Kingdom and Ireland, have agreed with his U.K. and Irish counterparts to seek bilateral science and technology cooperation. Chae and U.K. minister for Science David Sainsbury assented Wednesday to set up channels for the exchange of nanotechnology (NT) and biotechnology (BT) advances and selected eight joint cooperative projects from energy, aviation, and other fields. The projects were selected from recommendations made by scientists from both nations at the 6th Korea-U.K. Science and Technology Roundtable Meeting in London. At the meeting, the Korea Science Foundation signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Royal Society and British Association for the Advancement of Science for the exchange of scientific programs and staff. On Friday, Chae met Noel Treacy, the Irish minister for Science, Technology and Commerce in Dublin, Ireland, and they consented to dispatch a fact-finding mission comprising the two sides' scientists to each country after forming the delegation.
