The Korea-China friendly soccer match at 7:00 p.m. Saturday at Incheon's Munhak World Cup Stadium will be a competitive arena for both countries' cheering squads, not to mention Korean and Chinese soccer players. A Korean Air official said Thursday....some 200 members of China's "Chiumi" soccer worshippers are expected to arrive Friday in Korea via a Korean Air flight from Beijing for their first opportunity ever to see their team play against South Korean opponents. Chiumi, which literally translated means "a person who is crazy about ball games," has some 100 million members throughout China, of which some 70 million are known to be frantic soccer buffs, leading the wave of soccer popularity in China. Chiumi will lead Chinese visitors and ethnic Chinese living in Korea to effectively root for their team during the friendly match between Korea and China. Korea's counterpart, the "Red Devils" soccer supporters club, also will enthusiastically root for their team. They have already advertised through web sites for some 3,000 members to attend the friendly match. All members of Red Devils will wear red shirts, chant names of Korean players and sing soccer songs to dispirit their rival, Chiumi, as well as Chinese soccer players.
