A museum has opened in Namyangju, Gyeonggi Province, in memory of the pragmatist scholars of the late Joseon Dynasty.

The museum, which will be headed by Seoul National University professor emeritus Ahn Byung-jik, will be a leading research institute into “Silhak,” or the pragmatist Confucian school of thought in the latter period of the Joseon Dynasty.

The museum was built in Namyangju, the birthplace of Jeong Yak-yong, the leading scholar of pragmatism during the period.

It will be open year round free of admission and will display various books and other relics on Silhak.

A special exhibit is being held to celebrate the opening of the museum, with an international academic forum on Silhak set to open on October 30th.
