The government has notified North Korea of its plan to send corn, medical supplies and baby formula to the North.
A Unification Ministry spokesman said the government announced the aid plan in a notice sent to the chief of the North Korean Red Cross society on Monday morning.
Seoul said it is offering ten-thousand tons of corn, 20 tons of infant formula and medical supplies to Pyongyang.
The government decision to provide the assistance follows a request made by North Korea for humanitarian aid at an inter-Korean Red Cross meeting on October 16th.
The ministry spokesman said that preparations for the aid will be made through the two Korea’s liaison officers at the truce village of Panmunjeom.
The South Korean Red Cross society will shoulder the costs for providing drugs and infant formula worth 150 million won, while the money to send corn valued at four billion won will come from the inter-Korean cooperation fund.
