FM Yu: S-N Summit Would Address NK Nuke Issue

Foreign Minister Yu Myung-hwan says South Korea would treat North Korea’s nuclear issue as a key topic in any future inter-Korean summit.

Appearing before the parliamentary committee on foreign affairs on Monday, Yu said Seoul would seek to address Pyongyang’s nuclear issue by approaching South-North relations and the possibility of a summit with an open mind.

He did not, however, confirm recent rumors surrounding the potential for a possible inter-Korean meeting.

Yu said the North’s dispatch of its top diplomat, Ri Gun, to the U.S. was apparently done in order to show that the nuclear issue is a matter that needs to be resolved between Pyongyang and Washington.
