ICANN Meeting to Discuss Non-English Domain Names

About one-thousand Internet experts have gathered in Seoul for the 36th International Public Meeting of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN).

In the five-day meeting that opened on Monday in downtown Seoul, officials and Internet experts from around the world are expected to discuss various issues, especially the issue of allowing the use of non-English domain names.

If the meeting approves the use of international domain names written in languages other than English, South Korea will be allowed to use its Korean alphabet, Hangeul, in Internet addresses.
