ROK-ASEAN meeting will be held on Jeju Island Tuesday

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade said Monday....a South Korea & the Association of Southeast Asian Nations meeting will be held on Jeju Island Tuesday through Wednesday to discuss ways of further enhancing cooperation. A ministry official said...the 6th Meeting of ROK-ASEAN Dialogue will address comprehensive measures for specific co-operation in areas such as trade, investment and tourism. In particular, the South Korean delegation, led by Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs Lee Tae-shik, will ask for cooperation from the 10 ASEAN member countries in preventing terrorism during the May 31-June 30 World Cup finals to be co-hosted by South Korea and Japan and the Asian Games to be hosted by Busan later in the year. During the two-day meeting, Lee, concurrently chairman of the meeting, is to call on the participants to continue to support the Kim Dae-jung administration's sunshine policy toward North Korea. The ROK-ASEAN meeting was first held in Malaysia in May 1993. Starting this year, meetings will be held annually. ASEAN, established in 1967, has 10 member countries Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.
