Revised Broadcast Law Takes Effect

A revised broadcast law has taken effect three months after it was announced.

The law is part of disputed media reform bills railroaded by the ruling Grand National Party in July.

The media reform bills were ruled valid by the Constitutional Court Thursday.

But the law took effect without enforcement ordinances since the Korea Communications Commission has yet to approve it while the Constitutional Court is still reviewing them.

The revised law enables newspapers and conglomerates to enter the broadcast industry.

The ordinances for the law will be approved the commission in a general meeting Monday and later reviewed by the Government Legislation Ministry before being passed by the Cabinet.
