S-N Border Crossings, Gaeseong Operations Remain Normal

The government says South-North border crossings and operations at North Korea’s Gaeseong Industrial Complex are being carried out normally in the wake of a South-North naval skirmish in the Yellow Sea.

Unification Minister Chun Hae-sung added that 570 South Koreans are scheduled to visit the Gaeseong region and some 419 are expected to return home on Tuesday.

According to the Unification Ministry, a total of 963 South Koreans are staying in the North, including some 900 in Gaeseong, eight in Pyongyang and four in Haeju.

South Korean naval vessels fired warning shots at 11:28 a.m. Tuesday when a North Korean patrol boat crossed the Northern Limit Line into South Korean territorial waters. The North proceeded on its course, returned fire, and then retreated back to North Korean waters. No casualties have been reported from either side.
