Delegation leaves for UN General Assembly special session

Cheong Wa Dae officials said a government delegation headed by first lady Lee Hee-ho left Monday for the United Nations (U.N.) General Assembly Special Session on Children. The delegation includes Minister of Gender Equality Han Myung-sook, South Korean Permanent Mission Chief Sun Joun-yung, Senior Presidential Secretary for Foreign Affairs and Security Yim Sung-joon and Sookmyung Women's University President Lee Kyung-sook. The South Korean delegation will attend the session, which is scheduled to open in the U.N. Headquarters in New York Wednesday. Lee will join former South African President Nelson Mandela, U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan and current U.N. General Assembly President and former South Korean Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Han Seung-soo in an official ceremony the following day. First lady Lee is to give a keynote address at Wednesday's opening before paying a visit to Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn., where she will be presented with a human rights award.
