Choi Kyoung-ju became the first Korean ever to win a PGA title after clinching victory in the Compaq Classic Monday (Korean Time). Choi finished with a 17-under, 271 over four rounds of the English Turn course in New Orleans, earning the 32 year old US$810,000 in prize money. Finishing four strokes ahead of co-runners up Geoff Ogilvy and Dudley Hart at 14-under, Choi took the lead in the second round and never ceded. Holding his nerve as the field started to reel him in, Choi took advantage of perfect scoring conditions to record a 5-under par 67 over the final 18 holes, making him only the third Asian golfer to win a PGA event. With Monday's victory, Choi also secured his PGA card for the next two years.
