North Korea has expressed the need to resume the six-party nuclear talks and says it will continue cooperation with the United States to narrow differences.
The remark by a foreign ministry spokesman comes on the heels of U.S. special envoy Stephen Bosworth’s visit to Pyongyang.
The spokesman said that through businesslike and candid talks, the two sides deepened their mutual understanding, narrowed differences and found common ground on several issues.
He said the two sides saw eye to eye on the need to resume the six-way talks and the importance of implementing the September 2005 six-way agreement. He also said they agreed to continue cooperation to bridge the gap on remaining differences.
The remarks are similar to what Bosworth had mentioned the previous day. The U.S. envoy had said that more talks among the members of the six-way talks will be necessary to discuss the timetable and manner of North Korea's return to the nuclear dialogue.
