The Education Ministry is seeking more support for foreign institutes specializing in Korean studies in an effort to foster Korean studies as a national brand.

Courses on Korean studies offered at foreign universities now total 2,000, but the number of professors and research funds are still far below those of Chinese or Japanese studies.

The ministry says it will also build 50 Korean studies research centers in 27 countries in the next ten years.
