SK Government: “NK Arms Sale Investigation Needs Further Watching”

Thai authorities are detaining a Georgian cargo vessel that set out from North Korea on charges of illegal weapons transportation.

Meanwhile, the South Korean government said it has not confirmed the origin of the weapons nor whether North Korea had directly sold the confiscated weapons.

This latest statement was issued during a working-level meeting at a government-ruling party consultation with the Foreign Affairs, Trade and Unification Committee and the Grand National Party (GNP).

GNP’s Lee Choon Sik said the destination, sales amount and the types of the weapons are reportedly unconfirmed.

The government said that the five crew members of the cargo ship are currently exercising their right to remain silent, adding that they needed to wait and see, given that the Thai government has extended the length of their detainment.

At the consultation on December 15, Vice Minister of Unification Hong Yang-Ho said in regards to North Korea’s currency reform, no particular signs were detected as of yet and that unrest inside North Korea was unconfirmed.
