South Korea’s lead representative to the six-way nuclear talks has left for Russia to discuss a potential resumption of the multilateral dialogue.
Wi Sung-lac, who departed from Seoul on Wednesday, reportedly plans to meet with Russia's chief nuclear envoy, Deputy Foreign Minister Alexei Borodavkin, in Moscow on Thursday.
The two are expected to exchange opinions on bilateral and five-party collaboration plans to resume the six-way negotiations after the recently concluded round of talks between North Korea and the U.S.
In addition, there are plans for concrete discussions about South Korea’s Grand Bargain proposal, which is designed to present the North with security guarantees and economic assistance in return for dismantling its core nuclear programs.
Wi said in a news conference before his departure that he aims to keep a close watch on the dialogue situation as well as sanctions following the Pyongyang-Washington talks.
Wi will return to Korea on Friday.
